Installing a new fence – 3 things NOT to do!

Your fence is the first line of defence in the protection of your personal kingdom, be it your home or business premises.  It’s important.  It needs to be done right and done right first time round.  You can’t afford to learn the hard way when it comes to security fence installation.

A quick google search will reveal pages and pages of do’s and don’ts when it comes to fencing.  From regulations to materials, there are as many opinions as there are people to give them!  What you need is a quick overview of things to be aware of when you start your fencing project.

That’s why we’ve put together a list of 3 common pitfalls that you need to be aware of:

  1. Don’t use guess work

Your security fence is a permanent construction, so you need to be sure about where it’s going to go.  Take care to research and carefully plot your boundary lines, not only to keep the peace with your neighbour but also for your own benefit.  Nobody wants to be giving land away, so be sure that you measure out what you own and stake your claim with your new fence.

  1. Don’t compromise on quality

There’s no point erecting a security fence unless you can be sure it’s going to stand up to its job.  Quality materials and quality workmanship are crucial to the function of your fence.  Don’t be tempted to try and cut costs cheap hardware or dodgy construction – it’ll likely come back to bite you in a bitter and expensive lesson!

Think carefully about your gate too – great security fence with a weak gate is like a beautiful house without a roof!  Your gate construction and quality is key to the whole fencing system and it’s the bit that is used the most, so don’t skimp on it.

  1. Don’t try to do it on your own

Security fence installation and construction is not really a job for a novice.  It’s important that it’s done correctly, safely and in accordance with your local fencing laws.  Sure, you can do your part by researching thoroughly and clarifying exactly what you need, however, when it comes to the actual making and installing, you need professional skill, equipment, know-how and experience.  Get your ideas together, research and decide on the level of security you need and plot your boundaries so that when you approach the professionals, you are already well on the way to your new fence.
